The Chicken Crochet Car Charm Story:
How is it that a supposed descendent of Dinosaurs can be one of the cutest animals on the planet? Chickens are arguably the most well loved animals across human history. Their versatility in benefits to the human race is inumerable. From egg production, to fertilizer in our garden, to pest control in the yard, the chicken has been kept by humans for thousands of years. Historically chickens provided downy feathers for pillows and mattresses, as well as feathers for art, and bones for broth. So why have I created this Car Charm? Why a chicken over any other thing? The answer is, chickens are worth it. After all they do for us, we should celebrate them in our art.
So here we have the Chicken Car Charm. I never could have expected that in crocheting this little chicken I would have a little buddy while I was driving. I thought I was making a simple decoration, but I was wrong. Of course the day I hung this thing up my children were swift to name it. The naming of the chicken obviously gave it a place in the family (you can’t name something without growing attached to it). Now every time we hit a bump and it swings “eggman” is the center of attention.

So now “Eggman” (which is mostly hilarious because this is in fact a hen (a female chicken)), is a major part of every trip to town. And Its too late to change the name, because the kids could’nt care less about the technicalities of this chickens pronouns.
I would like to share now with you the pattern to create this Rear View Mirror Charm. In our current crazy world sometimes the simple and silly joys are necessary. So lets get to it!

Add safety eyes at this point, you can kinda play around with where you like them but I like to do them in the very top row. Leave at least 1 stitch between them.

Stitch through the six top stitches with a yarn needle and pull closed. Tie off.

Now we will add the comb at the top
Make Chicken Comb Using Red Color

sc 4 inside the circle and pull tight.
Position the comb at the top of the chickens head and stitch it on with a yarn needle. Tie off and clip ends.

Make Chicken Beak With Yellow Yarn
Stitch yarn in and out in the same spot for about 3 stitches with your yarn needle
Tie off and cut ends
Hanging Nest with Brown Yarn

Slst. Chain 22. Tie off.
Insert hook into opposite side of nest from your first chain of 22, and tie on. Chain 22. slst tie off.
